The digitalisation of the fishing industry is moving ahead

Despite many improvements, regional overfishing, bycatches and discards remain unsolved problems for the global fishing industry. Catch quotas, controls at sea and in ports, area closures and fishing bans do help, but are not satisfactory solutions. It would be preferable if unwanted fish did not get caught in fishing gear in the first place. Innovative technologies are giving hope for new solutions.

Green logistics protects the environment and the climate

The movement of freight has a significant influence on the sustainability of shipping and has developed into one of the most important areas in the transport sector. The term “green logistics” is frequently used in this context, which describes a combination of measures and technologies that aim to organise and monitor freight shipping in a way that protects the environment and climate.

Marel, a leading producer of sophisticated equipment for the fish processing industry, held its annual demonstration of machinery for whitefish processing at its dedicated demo centre, Progress Point, in Kastrup close to the Copenhagen airport. The event brought together existing and potential customers from all around the world as well as partners, Marel employees, and representatives from the press. The guests were treated to a day of equipment demonstrations and presentations both by Marel employees and external experts about some of the important trends shaping the future development of the industry.
